Job Description
Structural Designer

With preliminary direction from a Professional Engineer, work on project engineering of large international projects from concept and schematic design through construction documents to construction and commissioning; work on a wide variety of building projects, including complex geometry structures, commercial, institutional, civic and aviation projects, sport facilities, high rise, and long span structures; use state-of-the-art structural Finite Element and Non-Linear Analysis programs, including Oasys package (GSA), ETABS, SAFE, RAM Concept, and SAP2000 to perform Non-Linear analysis, human induced vibration analysis of floor plates and long span structures, dynamic analysis and seismic response calculations; research improvement of engineering design and design processes; provide manpower estimates, project communications, budget monitoring, and inputs, and organize deliverables, setting project standards for delivery; develop typical details, specifications, and drawing standards, including development of Revit standards in coordination with the BIM team; attend meetings with clients and promote positive client contact with current or prospective clients; participate as a team member, contributing ideas and possible solutions, and taking on issues where appropriate; perform site visit surveys to determine engineering strategies for renovation, and to document and evaluate existing systems; visit project sites during construction for reviews of quality, progress, and compliance with specifications and standards; perform analysis and design of structural systems for all types of buildings and materials using various national and international building codes and standards, including IBC, ASCE 7, ACI, Eurocodes, and NYC Building Code; respond to demands of the projects and formulate design decisions; coordinate project design and deliverables, preparing contract documents, including drawings and specifications; work in integrated design teams, collaborating with multiple practices across the firm; Perform seismic design through construction phase of reinforced concrete and steel structures for projects in high seismic regions; work on fast-track projects and develop concrete and steel details; improve interoperability between structural analysis packages and Revit; use Revit to develop, review and modify plan, details and drawings of structural engineering systems and components, and to check clearances or potential conflicts and relationships of the various parts to the whole and to one another; work on competition submissions and conceptual design projects; seek updated knowledge related to structural engineering practices, principles and regulations changes for various building codes and standards including International Building Code (IBC), American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE 7), American Concrete Institute (ACI), Building Code Requirements for Masonry Structures, and American Institute of Steel Construction (AISC); perform structural design and analysis for various structural materials, including steel, concrete, timber, and concrete masonry; make informed decisions in selecting appropriate construction materials; design foundations of various complex structures based on recommendations provided in the geotechnical report; perform gravity and seismic analysis and design of commercial equipment's anchorage to structural system; organize and maintain analytical models, calculations, and other documents for multiple projects; utilize knowledge in applying engineering principles for complete and accurate code compliant drawings; participate in structural engineering tasks management in accordance with scope, schedule, budget, and procedures to ensure successful project completion; provide technical guidance and engineering support for construction activities including review of technical submittals, response to contractor's requests for information, and response to plan check comments from building department, and obtain building department approvals; make technical assumptions to complete assigned work, and draw engineering conclusions; perform seismic design using Equivalent Lateral Force method from concept design through construction phase of steel and reinforced concrete structures for projects in high seismic regions; conduct in-house training and development in the use of analysis applications, including ETABS, SAP2000, SAFE, RISA 3D, RAM SS, RAM Concept, and RAM Connection; coordinate quality and timely delivery of the projects to budget; improve analytic processes and documentation, common solutions, and critical solutions.


Required Skills

Job Requirements:

The typical salary for this position is $65,853 per year.
