Position Summary
The College invites applications for a full time, tenure track Instructor, Culinary Arts to begin in September 2024. We seek candidates who are committed to Brookdale's mission of academic excellence, and who desire to work in a diverse and dynamic environment. In addition to excellent academic credentials and subject area knowledge, candidates will bring to the College a love of teaching, an enthusiastic desire to assist students, and an eagerness to contribute to the Brookdale community. Candidates will demonstrate a passion for lifelong learning, inside and outside of the classroom. The successful candidate is responsible for instruction to students enrolled in courses in the Culinary Arts and Hospitality Management Department and will have a commitment to teaching.
Description of Duties
  • Teach a variety of courses in the Culinary Arts, including Pastry Arts and Front of the House. Expected involvement with special events and off campus functions. May also be required to teach in the Hospitality Management area as well.
  • Engage in Department, Institute, and College initiatives, assessment projects, curriculum development, articulation agreements, advisory committees. Participate in shared governance, incorporate instructional technologies as appropriate to improve student knowledge attainment. Willingness to participate in marketing and promoting the program in conjunction with college departments.
  • Maintain competence in teaching and the discipline through professional development activities.
  • Meet with and assist students regarding comprehension of course content or externship opportunities.
Minimum Qualifications
Education/Experience:
  • A Master's degree in Culinary Arts or a related field is preferred. Will consider a combination of education and experience to include a Bachelor's degree in Culinary Arts OR an Associate's degree in Culinary Arts and 4 years of related experience with the requirement to complete a Bachelor's degree in Culinary Arts or a related field within three years of employment.

Experience:
  • A minimum of five years' experience in high-volume professional kitchens and experience in the management of professional kitchens.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
  • Evidence of well-developed written, verbal, and interpersonal communication abilities.
  • Evidence of technical literacy and a demonstrated willingness to maintain skills as technology changes.
  • Valid ServSafe certification.
  • ACF certified or eligible for certification as executive chef.
  • Knowledge of an LMS system and willingness to teach online.
Preferred Qualifications & Special Considerations
  • Recent teaching or training experience in the filed or related field preferably in Culinary Arts and at the College level.
  • Knowledge of Monmouth County and its food-related industries.
  • Knowledge of, or experience in, implementing a variety of teaching strategies.
  • Knowledge of web-enhanced or online instruction.
