Posting Summary
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Health Educator III for NJMS- Emergency Medicine. The Health Educator III position is responsible for fostering statewide public awareness on poisoning injury risk, poison prevention safety, and the services of NJPIES by providing poison prevention education programs to diverse populations within the state of New Jersey. This is a full-time position under the direction of the Director of Public Education.

Among the key duties of this position are the following:
  • Assesses and communicates community health needs.
  • Plans, develops, implements and evaluates NJPIES' community education programs. It is anticipated that majority of time (50 -75%) will be dedicated to field work (health fairs, teaching, special events) with the remainder in the office.
  • Provides outreach and education to diverse populations within the state of New Jersey by collaborating with community-based organizations, schools, municipal government, civic groups, community leaders, colleges/universities, religious groups, childcare centers and other injury prevention organizations.
  • Serves as a community resource person on unintentional poisoning injury and poison center services.

Qualifications

Minimum Education and Experience
  • Bachelor's Degree in Public Health/Health Education/Health Promotion and a minimum of two (2) years' experience in providing health education to diverse populations
  • OR a Master's Degree in Public Health/Health Education/Health Promotion and a minimum of one (1) year experience in providing health education to diverse populations.
  • Degree must be from an accredited college or university.

Certifications/Licenses
  • Certification in Health Education, either as a Certified Health Education Specialist (CHES) or Masters Certified Health Education Specialist (MCHES).
  • Valid NJ driver's license and access to a vehicle on a daily basis.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to foster relationships within diverse communities across New Jersey.
  • Strong computer skills: Microsoft Office Suite and Outlook.
  • Ability to work well both independently and as part of a team.
  • Bilingual Spanish/English skills strongly desired (fluent verbal, reading and writing); additional language proficiency will be regarded as a strong asset.
  • Flexible with hours, some evenings and weekends required.
  • Strong customer service skills
  • Professional experience in public speaking both large and small groups.
  • Strong facilitation skills. Some experience with hosting webinars and other forms of online education.
  • Self-motivated, dependable and detail-oriented

Special Conditions
  • This position requires travel to all 21 counties in the state of New Jersey for community education programs, meetings and events.
